The Dance

A Life Inhabited

What makes the difference between being alive and feeling alive?

We can have a life and yet barely experience ourselves living it.

We work. Love. Parent. Achieve. Cope. Keep things steady. Our lives can be extraordinarily full, and yet somehow beneath all of that activity, we can feel a sense of absence.

Where am I in all of this?

The Dance is my developing exploration of what makes the difference between simply being alive and feeling alive inside our own lives.

I’m interested in what happens in contact - with people, places, ideas, creativity, nature, our bodies and the ordinary world around us. How we are affected. How we respond. What becomes possible between ourselves and something other than ourselves. And why do certain encounters seem to make us more vividly present to our own existence?

I don’t think a life inhabited is necessarily an extraordinary life. It can contain responsibility, boredom, grief and repetition.

It is however, a life we are able to experience ourselves participating in.

The Dance is a developing body of thought. You can follow the exploration through my writing.
